lecture: Double Exposure

What is double exposure?

Refers to the merging of multiple images with the goal of making them surreal/emotional/humorous. They usually feature silhouettes.

Things to do with double exposure

Using tilt-shift effects

Basically a type of blurring that focuses on one part of the image.

Example of tilt-shift, n.d

Creating fake reflections using tilt-shift

Overlaying an image over another can add texture.

Experiment with simple portraits and detailed textures

By adding interesting overlays, it may save images one would've discarded instead.

Try B/W

Lack of colour can emphasize the emotion & vulnerability in a piece.

Silhouettes

A fun challenge would be using only silhouettes to build the piece as well.

2 random photos

Many double exposure shots are """happy accidents""", but they lead to great results. Completely forgetting about double-exposure ideas & shooting textures/shapes/forms/geometry can help creative growth as well.
